Game Sisters: Aveline de Grandpré

~ Special Inaugural Post ~

Gamers...you knew we'd get around to this someday.

Someone recommended to this to me on my Facebook, and I made a mental note to do a bit more digging. I've been recommended the Assassin's Creed series quite a few times, but I'm just not the gamer I used to be.

From the Assassin's Creed Wiki:
Aveline was born to a wealthy French merchant and an African placée bride, and occupied a position of wealth and respect within the city.

She was raised with care and privilege, even after her mother mysteriously vanished and her father had remarried. She joined the Assassin Order in 1759.

Aveline was a skilled freerunner, who was able to navigate with ease through the urban cityscape, and natural landscape, such as the Bayou.

As she grew, Aveline developed into a strong-willed young woman, who began to notice the contrasts within society, like freedom and enslavement, or wealth and poverty. Much like Connor Kenway, she was torn between the different values that she had inherited from her parents, and as such, she formed her own, which included a vehement stance against slavery.

Her fighting style included dual-wielding various weapons, such as a whip, firearms, swords, knives, a blowpipe, a sugar-cane machete and hidden blades.

Aveline's name originates from the Latin name "Avis" – meaning "bird".

Aveline is the first female protagonist in the Assassin's Creed series, who was also the only protagonist to wear a hat instead of the symbolic hood of the Assassins, though it retained a beak-shaped tip.

  5. Yes!!! When I saw her I became extremely interested in Assassins Creed (also thanks to Conner character as well). Shame that they are already white washing her >< . Great character.

    1. It's like they get twitchy at the sight of high melanin content, and other-than-European features on someone in a lead role. They can't take it.

    2. Twitchy indeed. I think it's also because she's the FIRST. Think Uhura or Cho-Chang...when the FIRST babe of a fandom is a POC, they have issues.

    3. With Cho-Chang, I mean being Harry Potter's first, of course.

  6. I personally thought Cho could do better...but that's OT, so I'll leave it right there.
