What's on your mind, Club members?

  1. I'm looking for new hobby's to do this fall/winter. I'm in Chicago so the weather can go from mild winter to full out blizzard with the hawk blowing.

I already got my workout classes mapped out, I just want something else to do this winter than play X-box live with friends.

Maybe puzzles? What do you guys have as hobbies?

    2. This winter I'm going to be improving my sewing skills (got a brand new sewing machine) also I'm going to be working on cosplay. I'm also going to be getting back into writing.

      Puzzles are good, maybe Sudoku??

Do you like to write? paint? ...

      Oh and photography. :)

    3. I was thinking about buying and putting together one of those big puzzles, It has been a long time since I did one of those. I do create and write my own comic book.

I can't paint but I remember doing those paint by numbers when I was a kid. I might look into that.

    4. Do you want the hobbies to involve staying in your own house or going out?

    5. As long as it's economically cheap I'm fine. LOL Mostly for Indoors.

    6. I didn't stick with it but went through a brief flirtation with knitting. It was rather pleasant to go to a comfortable coffee shop and do it, so I was going to suggest crocheting or knitting. I mean, you can knit anywhere...

Free days at the museum, or museums that have low or no entry fee are another one. I love the Chicago Historical Society, and the Art Institute...

    7. Target has some cute paint by numbers in the kids art supply section.

      What about knitting or crochet?

    8. I found several paint by numbers on Amazon and a big puzzles, Yaaaay! The knitting/crochet I couldn't get into. My grandma and Aunt tried to get me started when I was young and again as a teenager but just never took to it.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions.

  2. I really don't have much to Bitch about today (What a shock!) As for hobbies, I paint, sculpt and cook. I'm a professional Astrologer(For six years now) from New York City and a former phone-sex operator who plans on opening my own phone-sex business in the future. So I guess that makes me a madame?

I'm pretty unconventional and I love people who are interesting, colorful and creative. I also love being a Black Girl! Thanks for this site Ankh <3

    1. Hey, can I ask how you became a phone sex-operator? I can only go by what I saw in the movie Girl 6, but how do you separate yourself? I might want to do this as a side job.

Also do you need to meet the people you do astrology for or can a person send their information to you and how much do you charge?

Sorry for all the questions. :)

    2. I do astrological consultations via the internet. I'll be doing phone consultations in the new year. :-) Here's my blog for info: http://urbansoulflower.wordpress.com/ just click "Astrological Readings"

As for phone-sex, here in New York the Village Voice has one of the largest adult employment sections. I was working for a talent agent who loved my voice and used to joke about me doing it! I went and they hired me that day. I worked at an office (Not from home). I worked the midnight to 7am shift.

It can be difficult not to get attached to certain callers. You become like a therapist to a lot of these people. I spoke with couples and a woman as well! lol I had callers from Japan, all over. My specialty was submissive and my girl number was #782. I will never forget that damn number! lmao You can email me if you want and I can give you some info about working from home if you like. I know of some companies. You have to have a landline though..

  4. The Miss World pageant was soo full of fail. Not only was the pageant obviously rigged, but Miss South Sudan was robbed of her crown. I really thought South Sudan was going to make it in the top three. Heck, I thought she was going to win after her phenomenal Q&A. You really should watch this hot mess. The Miss World Organization has received many negative comments from around the world about the why Miss China won on her home turf again. They have yet to post any pictures or respond to any comments since Yu Wenxia was crowned.

  5. Another bout of randomness....

A few weeks back, I got a bit critical with commenters on the Blasian Narrative because the very first time we ever did an open thread, the very first comment was from a Black woman complaining about Asian men chasing white women.

First of all, it's the friggin' Blasian Narrative. How about some discretion? If you're going to bitch about men in a public forum, that's what the Black Girls' Club is for, goddamn it.

Secondly, this is 2012. If you're one of those Black women still bitching and whining about the male preference for white chicks, um...the Nineties called, hon. They want your insecurity and misguided focus back.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Exactly. They like white chicks? More power to 'em. Focus on the men who love Black women and there are a lot of them around, no matter what folks say.

      Delete
    2. Amen. That's the best way to shut that conversation. Dude confesses his undying love for white women, the obvious reply is, "I'm only interested into men who dig Black women. Next!"

  6. Why does it seem like the older women work out instructors work your ass off the most. I have just gotten back to the gym after an 6 months absence and I have two black women instructors; one teaches Body Works Plus Abs I think she is in her late 50's, the other teaches Zumba and she just turned 50.

Of course in my mind trying to keep up I'm like, "I'm no punk!" Knowing I look like Martin when he did the step class with Gina and Pam. LOL--

    1. Well, my theory is that they also will have had decades to build up their endurance...at least that's what I tell myself.
I go to bootcamp and spin classes at my job. The same instructor teaches them, and she teaches both everyday, then teaches another ab class later, THEN goes to another company and repeats.
Most days she does the workouts with us. And she kicks our butts. She's been teaching at the company, where I'm' relatively new, since the 90's. I'm pretty sure she is in her late 40's.
I think I prefer most of the older instructors b/c they have way more moves. They know more. They don't avoid certain exercises out of the fear that weights make you bulk up for example. A lot of the younger ones actually don't have a big arsenal of exercises and get pretty boring. They have 5 moves that they repeat the entire hour. On the other hand, I remember having one teacher (again, a late 40 something) who would come in with a stack of paper plates and tell you to get a mat and could work out you like a ninja, not bore you, and have you dripping with sweat by the time the hour was over.
But yeah, a lot of my favorite instructors were late 40's or 50's. And they would knock you out.

  7. The NYT Mag profile of the Williams sisters is just dreadful.

I kid you not about the following: the author describes Venus as "surprisingly" pretty, sheepishly admits to being shocked by Serena's hospitality and good manners, is even further taken aback that Serena appears to be a polymath who speaks near flawless French and scours Paris flea markets for antique books, and basically characterizes their father as everything from a sideshow carnival barker to an idiot savant. And because the author would otherwise be remiss, he also snarks on the man's southern accent. The comment section, per the usual at the NYT, was a mess; but a few managed to call out the tomfoolery of both the author and the bitter white mob who showed up to troll.

And did you know that Sharapova earns more money than Serena despite the fact that Serena is inarguably the better player, and apparently just wiped the floor with Sharapova at the Olympics?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Oh, so glad someone brought it up. I read 2 pages of it and was grossed out by the totally non-subtle racism.

I don't know why they always act like the Williams sisters are ugly or man like. They both have amazing figures, and Serena has the most enviable ass ever.

Somehow, the plain white girls never get called ugly but the attractive black girls get attacked. A lot of those white girls are homely and shaped like boxes.

But it isn't surprising that Sharapova makes more money b/c the white people would support any foreign white girl over the Williams sisters.

It is worth it for someone to write a letter to the editor...I've noticed that the NY Times engages in this a lot, and they love to open the comments sections to racist trolls, whereas article about crazy white people, cheating white kids, etc. NEVER have a comments section.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Well, NYT is owned by the same lovely soul who unleashed Fox News Network on the world, so I'm not surprised by their dirty tricks.

    2. Indeed. Remember all those "Black Women are Fat" and "China is irrelevant" type articles? *rolls eyes*

      Delete
    3. Exactly, and those are the articles where they have comments sections and let people say all KINDS of racist and inflammatory things. But like I said, when white people are actually behaving badly, they NEVER have it open for comments...not a coincidence.

      Delete
    4. Hon, I gave up on comment sections ages ago.

    5. So they open the floodgates in the interest of generating page clicks. Good point. That hadn't dawned on me.

And what's a more surefire way to entice the mob than POC bait?

And it's actually pretty funny that you mention the level of ridiculousness that other folk perpetrate with impunity. I was reading a piece in the Home section about this model (white guy) who flipped a house in Greenpoint and had the gall to list it for upwards of 2M. Folks were rightly laughing at him elsewhere on the internets, but you'd think it would be a good opportunity for the NYT to host a conversation about real estate bubbles, gentrification, affordable housing policy, and the overall insanity of the NY real estate market. But no. I scroll down--no comment section.

This is all about attention! They've got to keep people reading somehow. News in America is a joke anyway; people look to international news sites. So American sites have to drag people back by any means necessary.

  9. I am learning to accept that my hair does what it wants, and that includes changing textures every few weeks...which makes it near impossible to keep up with. I'm over my hair being neat, but I do need to like it before I walk out of the house.

      Amaya are you natural?

I'm natural now, my last perm was in 2009. Do you usually where your hair out or do you braid/twist?

      Delete
    2. My last perm was in '09 too! Yes, I'm a proud natural, but it is tedious because she keeps changing texture on me.

When I'm at home, I keep it twisted and moisturized, but when I try to style it, I follow the same procedures but it looks different every.single.time. It drives me crazy because sometimes it's perfect and other times, it is a hot fire mess.

  10. I know this belongs over at the blasian narrative but what is up with Rain's shower/kissing scenes being cut out of movies?

The shower scene was cut out in NA and is buried in 6 ft of cement. They will find Hoffa's body before we see that shower scene in Ninja Assassin.

Now in Return to Base: R2B they cut out the kissing scenes between the actress that played his girl friend. She was like I keeping those kissing scene's for her own private collection. lol

Is it just action movies because he did plenty of kissing scenes in Korean Drama's and the movie I'm a Cyborg.

    1. It's Bitchfest; it's allowed.

I'll be honest with you. I'm still fuming. It's one thing to have that scene cut from the film. But to keep every other cut scene BUT that scene offends beyond words.

You know there's more than one take. Naomie Harris already stated she couldn't keep it together while filming.

TPTB need to release a recut NOW and quit fucking with people's emotions.

      Delete
    2. I don't understand either to be honest with you. Korea makes some of the most sensual/sexual love scenes I have ever seen on film. I think Korea would prefer to keep Rain in a box. He's openly admitted to wanting to do more sensual/sexual stuff in terms of his films and movies.

They did release stills of Rain kissing the actress from "Return To Base." Ninja Assassin didn't even get that! I remember listening to the commentary Brad Pitt made on "Legends Of The Fall". He actually took a pay cut to keep a love scene in the movie! lol

  11. Can we talk about the Black anchorwoman from CNN who got pelted with peanuts and called an animal? She says she doesn't want to talk about it anymore and hopes people move on from the event.

Say what? That story ain't goin' nowhere.

    ReplyDelete

    1. We should totally talk about that but speaking of Black anchorwomen, I saw that Robin Roberts went on leave for her bone marrow transplant and her mother passed away.
And every time I see a picture of her I wonder why she never gets credit for being a total fox, at almost 50. Everyone is always drooling over these old looking white women (like Diane Sawyer) and Robin has got an amazing figure, legs for miles, and cheekbones that could cut diamonds.
Yet I've never heard a peep about how amazing she looks. Every botoxed white hag in Hollywood and on TV gets called gorgeous and she gets nothing. She's older than Ann Curry who they love to praise for her perfect, ageless Asian skin.

      Okay rant over.

Well, we got the usual bit of whitesplaining and people trying to claim it would have happened to ANY CNN anchorperson, or people who just claimed it was a lie.

Oh, we should also talk about how white people insist of acting like a white man putting his penis between a pair of black legs is proof that he isn't a racist...

  12. I'm telling you, we need a National Beat'em Down Day. Where you can fuck up anyone you want without consequences.
