Black Girls' Night Out: Carter...but no Pope

So last Thursday, ABC hosted a music award ceremony which meant no Scandal.

So this post is all about Joss Carter.

I'm noticing a pattern with Det. Carter and I wondered if you all have noticed it as well: she's always saving Reese.

I wonder if this deliberate and I wonder if there's some sort of special meaning to it.  Think about it: Reese is the Man in the Suit.  He's the mysterious hero who shows up in all the right places at all the right times and shoots the right people.  He's the Man in the Suit.

Carter is the woman...who saves the Man in the Suit.  She's the hero's hero and I'm beginning to dig that angle.  It's clever, it's atypical, and it's very "behind every good man there's a great woman", know what I mean?

Taraji got some well-deserved screen time and action in this week's episode, though I was confused.  I was under the impression Carter was going out on a date, turns out, Reese goes on a faux date with a possible Person of Interest...and Carter gets irritated.

*sigh*  Come on now.  I'm sure the audience isn't alone in noticing the fineness that is Carter.  Why aren't more men flirting with her?  You know that in real life they would!

  1. Carter and Reese both are US armed forces veterans, so they are both really good with weapons and defending others. I do like the angle that she can hold her own and save the hero.

Carter passed the New York bar, so she's also a (non-practicing) lawyer. I wonder if the writers will do anything with that. Maybe she will return to practicing law if she's kicked off the force for helping vigilantes...

Carter will be getting a love interest starting in Episode 8, which airs in December after the Thanksgiving break. Her love interest will have a recurring role, so it's not a one-time deal:

The writers plan delve into her personal life and her past.

Unfortunately, I doubt that Carter's new romance will end well because it's bound to conflict with her helping Reese and Finch. Her boyfriend is bound to become suspicious.

    1. Damn. Not a fan of Sterling K. Brown.

Was Sinqua Walls busy? J. August Richards didn't a paycheck? Nobody thought to give Leonard drop-dead-sexy Roberts a call?

    2. I am not familiar with Sterling K. Brown's acting beyond the few scenes I have seen in ARMY WIVES previews.

      What's wrong with him?

We could ask this question about a LOT of shows...

    4. Sterling was on Supernatural, and I've seen him elsewhere. Just not a fan.

No, really though...Adetomiwa Edun didn't need a role? No one thought to call Idris Elba? Was Lanre Idewu simply not available? *blink*

Or is that the point? Can't introduce a black male character who's too sexy. Audience might blink when you break them up.

    5. Idris Elba.Awww man..I don't know about Taranji, but if they offered him to play the role of her boyfriend, I wouldn't turn the role of being the girlfriend. It would be nice, but I don't think that the people behind POI will let that happen. They probably wouldn't want to pay him the money that he would deserve. I'm not feeling Sterling myself. Its like he's just there,no real purpose with him.

  2. I finally saw this show and I did like it.

Um, did you notice that Taraji is showing a little too much of her business in this picture?

Although it's hard not to miss the fact that Carter is definitely responsible for the fact that Reese's ass is still six feet above the ground ten times over, I never thought about it this way. I like the thought of that too.

And I still would like to see her more involved in helping to resolve the numbers cases instead of just being phone support to Reese and Finch. They have Fusco for that. I know she's a cop and has cases to work, but still... Why's she the second billed on the show if she's just going to be a semi-bit player on the whole big important arc of the show? They don't do that to what's her face on Castle or The Mentalist. I want to see Carter applying her awesom skills to the team in a more meaningful way. Actually working cases with the boys, going in the field with them, etc. I hope the writers get on that fast. They've been a bit better about that this season, but I'd like to see more on that front.
