Black Girls' Night Out: Michonne

If I was a smoker, this episode of The Walking Dead, #308, "Made to Suffer" (apropos, considering it's the mid-season hiatus), would have had me eating cigarettes.  Michonne leads Rick's group to Woodbury to rescue the graduates of Dumbass University.  As predicted last week, Oscar (the brotha that ain't Tyreese), got got.  Good news is that Tyreese has finally shown up, and with him another sistah named Tasha (not sure who the actress is yet; no images are currently available).  I don't expect Tasha to make it through Episode #309 when the show resumes in February.  I mean, TWD has a two-negro maximum, and Michonne and Tyreese got that covered.  Still, it's nice to see another BW on the show.

Now on to Michonne.  She gets more screen time and boy, is it great to watch.  She lies in wait for her enemy, stumbles upon his ugly secret and gets into a brutal, nasty fight that she wins LIKE A BOSS!  That scrap was epic!  She's interrupted in her bout of badassery by Andrea, and even though she has a gun on her, Michonne gives her the stank eye and walks off, knowing that Andrea ain't bad enough to shoot.

And FINALLY, we get to see a DIFFERENT look on her face!!!  She actually shows some emotion and emits to what amounts as a plea when it appears that Rick's about to cut her loose.  She wants to stay with his group because they're decent people, but she had to take care of some business first.  Rick takes her katana...and I'm gonna need for folks to not do that.  The last man to take Michonne's blade now has one eye.

  1. Ok. I need Rick to sick the F down! I really don't like his attitude towards Michonne, cause really she didn't have to do shit for you and the group.

Now on to Tyreese, I wanted to throw something at the TV when Carl was like, "No I'll go down there" *rolls eyes*, but since we got Tyreese out the deal I'm happy.

    **SPOILER!**

In the graphic novel Tyreese met rick and the group on the road to the prison. Tyreese along with his daughter Julie and her boyfriend Chris was with him.

So I don't know if Tasha is supposed to be his daughter in the tv series. If it is then yeah she will die.

  2. I LOVED the fact that Michonne actually showed some emotion when she first encountered the Governor's turned daughter locked up in the closet. From what I read online she had two daughters that got infected. I am GLAD that she not only fought, but won against him. Finally a woman winning an all out fight against a man on TV instead of being reduced to a quivering crying mess. As for Rick he has been showing attitude to everyone. I get his point. If she wanted to go after the governor there was no need for her to go to the prison in the first place. She knew how to get back into the town. She didn't need them for that. I was hoping she would kill him before she left. I would prefer that she was a lone wolf character. Only brief interactions with people. If her and Tyreese are put together I hope it is more tasteful then what the comic describes.

  3. The fight with Michonne and the Governor was awesome! Best fight scene since the show's inception. I just hope the new black couple on this show don't die...since this has now become a trend. What about the father and his son from Season 1? Will they return??

    1. I only started watching during season two. I do not know if they are going to stay too close to the actual story, but main characters are fair game from the looks of it. I was shocked when they killed off Shane in season two so I would not count on anyone lasting long. Couples also do not seem to last long on this show so I would not count on them being around long.

    2. Being in love during a zombie apocalypse is inherently dangerous. Look at Glen & Maggie, aka Dumbass U graduates.

  4. Every time Michonne fought this season it was epic. Whether she was kicking Merle Dixon's behind or blinding the "Guvnah", she has proven to the audience that her skill is unmatched. Michonne is my girl this season. My only gripe is that the writers have completely veered off from the story line. Michonne is accepted with open arms by Rick and his people in the comic. She chooses not to speak to people but, she is respected far more by Rick than he does in the show.

And speaking of Merle did anyone notice how he has been put on a leash this season. The only racist thing that he has said was "spear chucker". That made shake my head. Other than that his character has been toned down. I guess Robert Kirkman got the memo.

I went to the Walking Dead Panel New York Comic Con this year and they basically said that we are in for it this season. The best is yet to come.

    1. He did crack on Glen when he sicc'ed the walker on him. He said that the walker would be hungry again in an hour (because Glen is Asian). However a lot of folks might have missed that since the damn thing was making so much noise while Merle was speaking.

I hope so. I await Feb 10 with baited breath.

  5. Holy shit, do I love Michonne. Danai Gurira is fantastic in the role, and I want MORE OF HER after the mid-season break. What's her backstory? How did she get to be so badass with that katana? What made her decide to draft her zombified boyfriend and his friend into the Luggage Army of the Undead?

I hope they give her a love interest who's up to the challenge of being with someone that kickass, no matter her gender preference (was it specified in the comic? I've only read the first anthology).
