Just Need to Show You Something Right Quick

I was looking over the Gothic Sisters posts when I realized something.

This is Rachel True (currently aged 46)...back in 1996.

At 29, she played a teenager in high school.

This is Rachel True on her 44th birthday without any makeup:

This is Bianca Lawson (currently aged 34) back in 1997 on Buffy:

And this is Bianca in 2012:

    1. As I recall, Bianca is still playing teenaged characters.

    2. Um, if you are black, all you need to do is to keep waking up black every day.

    1. An abundance of melanin also helps.

    2. Actually, you don't even don't have to do that so much with enough melanin. So for example, look at Natalie Cole. Chick was deep into cocaine for a couple of decades and this was her at 50.

And here she is at 59...

She is 63 now by the way in case you find any current pics.
It takes a LOT to make black crack and even then it's not really wrinkles and spots the way that white people age.
So by all means, live as well as you can but that's not the deciding factor at all. All of the gym time and yoga classes in the world won't allow a 60 year old white lady to look like that.
Oh, and here is another lady that lived pretty fast for a while at 70ish.

  3. Black don't crack and all of these women are still looking Google at their ages. Wow! I had no idea that Rachael True was that old. I'm still thinking that she was in her 20s or 3Os.

    1. Well, I dislike when she opens her mouth but Stacy Dash is a little older than that is is another one who was playing teenagers forever and has looked the same for the past 20 years. Even at close to 50 she looks WAY fresher than a lot of the white girls who are in their 20's. So when she was in Clueless, she was nearly 30 playing a 16 year old. And Gabrielle Union would have been about 30 in Bring it On (playing a high school cheerleader). She is 40 and definitely still has the energy and fresh look to play a woman half her age.
Things that age black skin(or at least are taken as markers of advanced age on black skin) usually are about damage caused by acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, or other skin conditions, but not actual wrinkling.
I mean, look at the oldest people in your family. Do they really have WRINKLES or do their faces lose their firmness and start to sag, (but even then their skin is really soft.) There is a big difference. You'll have black women who have fairly smooth AND firm skin into their 70's. When do you see crows feet on a dark skinned person?
So in the past few years I've become a regular user of sun screen (even though I love the glow the sun gives me) and sunglasses so I don't squint on bright days).
A dermantologist friend (also a black woman) said for us, our best weapon is to prevent and treat things that irritate and attack our skin.

  5. You want to be impressed. Google Wendy Ida and Ernestine Shepherd. Flawless.

    1. Wow! I got to see Wendy Ida. The woman is awesome and one would think that with all of the problems she endured that age would creep up on her. I wonder if she's grandparent or a parent? because I would be surprised if she's mistaken for a someones sibling. Ive read that she too is in a Blasian relationship. I bet that man never let his off from her. Can you blame him? Wendy's a very beautiful woman who deserves a lot of happiness in her life.

    2. *typo* sent it in to fast. Anyway, 3rd line, I meant to say " wouldn't" and the 4th line I meant to say " I bet that man never let his eyes off of her..."

    3. @M

What is awesome he married her before she got into shape. He encouraged her. She has two kids from her previous marriage. Here is a link that speaks about her and her husband who is Japanese American.

    4. @Lesa, well, not everyone has the same ideas about what is attractive, so I'm not sure a man deserves a pat on the back for liking what he likes. You can find love without being skinny or athletic.

      I'm just sayin'...

    5. What is probably worth mentioning is that he really loves her for her and supports however she wants to look, b/c some men think it is all about them (I've seen a lot of nonsense lately about men not liking it when their wives cut off their hair and stop straightening it, and many people suggest those men are allowed to do that-ugh.)

  6. Friggin' Mugabe at the age of 89 (I know...random, but the general principle still applies).

  7. Well, since I've been in Asia, I've come across people who think I'm no older than 30. I just smile and pop my collar. One thing I try to do regularly is laugh, and believe me, it helps.

Never mind the fact that the indigenous population stares at me like I'm an alien, but in a friendly way.
