Black Girls Behaving Badly: Danièle Watts

By now we've all read about how Danièle Watts accused the LAPD of racially profiling her and suspecting her of being prostitute.

Civil rights leaders have since asked Watts to apologize for the accusation (seeing as she was allegedly screwing her boyfriend in a car), and she has refused.

Some things to note:

1) This does not let the LAPD off the hook.  Were we to do things all over again, we'd automatically still take Watts's word over the cops.  We have no solid evidence she was fucking her boyfriend in that car, and POC really don't like it when the cops stop us for (seemingly) no goddamn reason.  The boyfriend has even stated this is the third time cops have randomly stopped the two of them.  Fashion tip: no one actually gets "used" to that shit simply because it keeps happening.  If anything they get angrier every time it does, and are far more liable to snap.

So Watts's screw-up doesn't give cops (especially white cops) any newfound credibility.  The relationship we have with the po-po will remained unchanged until further notice.

2) People keep citing Watts's Django Unchained credit like this is all she's ever done.  Her list of credits is actually more extensive than folks would have you believed.  She's a bona fide actress.  So although she's never been a tabloid target, she's been working rather steadily over the last fourteen years.  Now, I can't say recent events will do her resume any good....

3) This situation has earned Danièle Watts a Nita Jade Hanson Award*.  Fuck nominations and suggestions; the trophy is hers.

Let's run down the reasons right quick.  First, she chooses a white dude who's nowhere near her level of pretty.

Deal with that for a minute.

Second, she then (allegedly) gets down and dirty with him in a parked car in broad daylight...like folks would really want to see that shit.  Third, when the cops arrive and start slapping cuffs on her wrists, he throws her under the bus (I must say...when Madame Noire is posting this shit, you know it just got real).

Lastly, after being thrown under the bus...she's still with this guy.

Now, I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm not anti-BWWM.  I just get really irritated when I see a sistah who could seriously stand to do better - in any relationship.

What about you, Club Members?  What are your thoughts on this situation?

  1. First off..I really didn't appreciate Danielle using any civil rights organization to cover up her sexcapades.
I've read where she refuse to apologize to civil rights organizations for her antics. It's not funny. POC's are losing their lives/rights for the jive stuff she does she claims as racism. To me, it's a slap in the face for people who actually need their help. She put minorities behind pulling indiscreet stunts like this.

Secondly, whether her story would have been true or false, the idea that her " boyfriend " threw her under the bus should be a grave indicator of how he would be if she was actually put into an actual civil rights emergency. Lets say that she was a victim of police brutality. a real man would have stood up for her. If he can throw her under the bus with this situation, he will do it over and over again. Sadly, he's not the one for her in more ways than one. I agree with Susie, I think this guy see her as a booty call and nothing else. She's sad for wanting to be with him. Sex belongs in the bedroom, not for the world to see. People may think it's thrill to do that, but it's belongs in private.

Now that the situation with Daniele has been understood, I guess racists think that we're the liars as they claim POC's are and that was why Michael Brown " deserved" to be killed..oh no.. and the LAPD and other police forces should never off the hook because they're still unjustly killing innocent civilians..especially POC's and they never take responsibility for their actions, no matter how obvious the truth is in their face. Daniele can lie billions of times about what she did,but it will never make up for the billions of times cops and others lie about what they do to minorities. If there is one thing that can be used against the LAPD is the cuts on her wrists. The cuffs must have been mighty tight and thin for her to have had those cuts and that is not the way it's suppose to be. That should be considered to be Police brutality if that how the they came about.

Initially, I thought that V. Stiviano was should win the Rita Hanson award for dating a racist and her being anti Black in spite of Black/MexicanAmerican heritage, but I think that Daniele should get at. At least V is no longer with Donald. Daniele could do a lot better.

  2. Considering what a poor 12 year old girl endured when 3 beasts in blue thought SHE was a prostitute, this pissed me off.

    1. Hey, Princesssookeh. sorry for teh late respose.

Here are some articles and posts online discussing the incident. As many other commentators have said on the first link, I believe those cops were up to no good when the tried to take her away, especially since she did NOT fit the description of the alleged prostitutes they were supposedly looking for.

I agree. Yes it can't be proven that they were screwing in the car, but to claim they were stopped because of their race bothers me. If I'm at work and see two people screwing outside (or appearing to be doing so) the office I'm calling the cops. And the pictures DO look suspect. They were asked to knock it off before the cops were called. The main issue seems to be the providing an ID when asked. Some people have said they did not need to and others have said its the law. I'm not from Cali so I do not know. The cuffs were not slapped on her until she 1) did not provide ID and 2) walked off from the scene. Her "boyfriend" of TWO MONTHS did throw her under the bus. Personally, I can't see calling someone my boyfriend after two months, but not everyone vets.

And I do not like the fact that she called it racism. She only has been harassed while with her white boyfriend? Its never happened until then? What happened to Cherie Johnson (Punky Brewster actress) is what I call racism. They were taking a picture and got harassed by a cop about drugs which they did not have! They were put in handcuffs for NO reason and had their car (she was also with her boyfriend) searched for drugs twice (none found). THAT is racism. Two people f**king (even allegedly) on the side of the road in broad daylight is just stupid.

As for the media only citing Django I think that is because its her best known work. I've never seen it (and never will). I had never heard of her until now. I do not find it offensive. Its like being an ex of George Clooney. That is all you will ever be known as. No matter how many men you dated before or after you will always be referred to as George Clooney's ex.

This had me laughing aloud at work like a crazy woman. I didn't know they'd only been together for 2 months.

    2. 2 months, he drop-kicks her to save his skin, AND she's still with him? Ain't no dick in the world that bomb.

    3. I wish it was just a joke, but its not. He said that right before saying that " being in the back of the police car was be good for her!" There is a full audio of the encounter somewhere.. I clicked the link from another site so I'm not sure where it is.

    4. @Leo-I was thinking the same thing. It was first reported he was her husband, then boyfriend. At two months I still consider the person a "friend" until I know you better, but each his own.

The audio is on the Madame Noire site.
