Ichabbie, take notes from Avan Jogia and Kylie Bunbury (and #CancelSleepyHollow)

Real talk.

This thing with Sleepy Hollow has pissed off more people than even I realized.  #CancelSleepyHollow is trending with a vengeance, and there's no shortage of critics and bloggers swearing off the show, in the highly unlikely event it gets a Season 4.  Not only that, there's no shortage of pieces on the deaths of several female lead/prominently recurring characters over the past couple of weeks, spanning an appalling number of shows, and comprising no small amount of lesbians (the writer of that last article didn't know it then, but the lesbians on Empire and The Vampire Diaries have also since died).

Yikes.  Sounds like someone's really upset with the womenfolk lately.  Wonder why that is?

The women themselves are clearly upset.  While folks are genuinely shocked at the death of Abbie Mills, everyone knows Nicole Beharie has been trying to put miles between her and FOX, ever things took a dive in Season 2.  Kat Graham is bailing from The Vampire Diaries next year; she's been missing for the past couple of weeks from the show, and recently stated that her (two) most exciting episodes - in all of Season 7 - are about to air...now that the season is ending.

Yeah, okay - my point is that Avan Jogia and Kylie Bunbury showed us the way, back in the day, on how to handle your business when you leave a show, or it gets canceled because the writers are complete and utter shit.

As some of y'all recall, I wasted way too many weeks of my life - both here and on the Blasian Narrative - chronicling the sheer fuckery which occurred on ABCFamily's Twisted.  And we had all the usual suspects back then: casting a POC in the lead only to throw him under the bus for a White girl; writing a Blasian romance only to tank it for the aforementioned White girl; endless condescension towards and infantilization of all the POC on the show.  Cancellation truly was the best thing to ever happen to that show.

Then, at the Bar, I made an off-hand remark about how Avan and Kylie needed to just go somewhere far away, do their own thing, and have their characters hook up there.  Whattaya know...#Tuhad happened.

Those two literally crossed oceans and deserts (while keeping their work fiercely under wraps), to get nekkid with each other on a whole 'nother continent, much to the delight of soooooo many fans.

So...I'mma try this again: Nicole Beharie and and Tom Mison need to go somewhere, far away, and do a completely separate project in which they get nekkid to the delight of their many, many fans.  With their chemistry, they're liable to burn the whole damn building down.

And it's not just those two.  Miz Kat Graham needs to grab Ian Somerhalder and Chris Wood, go far away, do a completely separate project with each actor, in which they get nekkid to the delight of their many, many fans.

And while we're at it, let's campaign for Naomie Harris and Rain to drag their asses back together and give us all the things we were denied back in 2009.

Y'all catch my drift.

Because 2016 has been a year of no chill, and needs to stay not chillin', feel me?  These actors and actresses need to be a bit more demanding and inquisitive up front, not years after the fact.  Once an onscreen pair discovers they have major chemistry, they need to promptly - and bluntly - ask the showrunner when's their first sex scene, what's the overall timetable for them to get together, and then demand all of that shit in writing.

*sniff*  Three years of Ichabbie and all we've got to show for it is a damn fist-bump-turned-hand-kiss and a goddamned farewell bow.

If you haven't already imagined my head literally doing an Exorcist like 360 (minus the demony stuff) then you should be! I am co-signing to aaallll of that, especially the last one, and in fact, someone needs to somehow, someway, make things right with Trish and Han!! like now!

Initially I left them off the list for obvious reasons, but now...I'm thinking a dreamcast is in order.

  2. All of the yes! You can't fake chemistry like tom / Nicole and Naomi / Rain.

Give the people what we want!!!!!!!

  3. I love the chemistry between Tom and Nicole. Yet I never NEVER wanted the characters to hook up! I loved the fact they had separate romantic interest outside of each other. I always hate when main characters become a couple. I used to watch the show Bones. The minute they became a couple I stopped.

I would love to see Tom and Nicole in another project together though.

  4. If there is anything that FOX did right is NOT for them to be romantically linked. Not only would that have that been possibility " easy" ratings for them but it would have gotten in the way of a good storyline. This is part of the problem that I have with Rhonda Rhimes pictures. You'll see the sex before you know the gist of her series..then add the IR element in it and PRESTO! a hit arises.Nothing wrong with doing it every so often but with Shondas series..she's going to make you see that before anything.

  5. Wow. Fox'Nem did everything my gut told me they'd do regarding Abbie/Nicole and then some. Everything. I'm grateful my instincts told me to just 'watch' from afar and not get into the show given Fox's abysmal track record with shows with a high POC ration/BW leads. Didn't take long for POC to start dropping like flies much like what happened with Heroes (yet another show that could have been great but noooooo; Petrelli Family Drama was much more important).

And althouygh they would have had Ichabbie sailing full speed by Season 2 if Abbie had been, say, played by Katia, I'm glad it never took off at all. Why? Becuase I did not trust the writers one bit. They barely designed a life for her outside of being Ichabod's side-kick from what I've gathered. They'd have lost her completely if they paired her off. I trust the fanfic writers to handle that with more care and consideration.

"So...I'mma try this again: Nicole Beharie and and Tom Mison need to go somewhere, far away, and do a completely separate project in which they get nekkid to the delight of their many, many fans." - Trust and believe whatever project that is would see a massive ratings spike on its debut. Especially if there's a clear understanding that they'd do right by Nicole's character.
