Black Girls' Night Out: Keating & Pratt (#HTGAWM #BGNO)

Yes, I owe two weeks' worth of reviews, but in my defense, Luke Cage dropped on Netflix and everything else stopped being important.

But it was good to get back into Shondaland because S3E2 ended with a "distraught" Annalise handing Oliver a phone to wipe clean.  So...her house is burning and someone she supposedly cares about is dead, but instead of being in shocked into numbed silence like most people, Annalise is clear-headed enough to hide evidence...as are Bonnie and Oliver apparently, per S3E3.

Mm-hm.  Sooooo....can we all agree now that Annalise set that bitch on fire her damn self?

Mind you, this doesn't ruin the story for me; in fact, it makes it all the more amusing.

Unlike Scandal, HTGAWM doesn't make the mistake of abandoning its weekly cases.  This week focused on a disgusting waste of skin who, we learn, kills two innocent women.  The first we one find out about is an escort who overdoses.  Instead of calling an ambulance, the douche defendant takes a selfie with her unconscious body first.  We later learn he once bludgeoned a runaway basically because she wouldn't sleep with him.  And despite all of this, Annalise manages to get him a measly 3-year sentence.

The defendant whines she was supposed to get him no jail time, and heeeeeeere's where we see the slap heard 'round the blogosphere.

Yes, ma'am. Moving on, then....

These past couple of weeks gave us a little more Michaela Pratt, so I'm not too annoyed this time around. S3E2 showed her telling Asher in no uncertain terms that he is not her boyfriend and it's not her job to teach him about privilege and make him a better man.  He is just the dude who apparently gives her lots of orgasms.  So good for them (I really like actor Matt McGory so seeing him with a sista is awesome).

This week, however, Connor makes a quip to Michaela that "our ex" got married. And by that he means everyone's favorite closet case Aidan.  Apparently he married some rich sista from a really bougie family, and while combing through the "happy" couple's pictures, we see how Michaela is missing that perfect life she always wanted.  Her friends remind her that if Aidan and his new boo were really that happy, they wouldn't need to keep showing it to the world (especially since we all know Aidan is into guys).

It doesn't stop Michaela from looking like she should've reconsidered Aidan's family proposal though.

Season 3 thus far has been underwhelming in the crazy department, but since Annalise had to set her own house on fire and kill yet another person (yes, that's my theory and I'm sticking to it until proven otherwise), I'm guessing there's plenty of crazy still to come.

  1. I normally DVR the show and watch it later. My sister told me about the slap. I replayed it about eight times! Afterwards I took some Motrin and put an ice pack on the side of my face. It hurt me! That was a WHOLE body slap.

I don't think Annalise set her house on fire. Everyone killed on this show has been by someone else's hand. And there are a lot of dead people on this show! She has managed to stay clean. A true boss does that. When you are good you get other people to do it. And I have a feeling the body was dead BEFORE the fire.

I love the fact Connor and Michaela (and Oliver) are close enough to hang together. Hence him going to her place to crash after he and Oliver break up. I was mad she is hurt her gay, but not out former fianceé still has a hold over her. Or as you said she wonders if she made a mistake. Huh....NO! I feel for his new wife unless his family paid her off to turn a blind eye to his shenanigans. It is probably a business arrangement. I love Asher because he is goofy as heck, but I feel he will get hurt when she moves on. I am glad she let him know that their arrangement is just that. An arrangement. Or as she calls it. He is her meat stick. I guess he might be goofy, but he makes up for it in other areas.

And I have to be honest. I'm sick of Wes. He gets obsessed with women (maybe due to his mom dying) and won't let go. He is with his woman yet popping up to check on Laurel every two seconds. I can't remember did they sleep together? I know they kissed.

I did find out that Wes aka Alfred Enoch is a Harry Potter alumni. I happen to catch one of the movies a few weeks ago and there he was.

SHE PUT HER BACK INTO IT. She did that shit like a grown woman. That wasn't no little girl slap!!!

Either way...she was still behind it tho. Or she's protecting whoever was.

That is a good question. I can't remember either. While I love Alfred Enoch, this character is irritating AF. First off, there's the accent change. Why couldn't they write him in a way which allowed him to stay British? Then there's the women issue. He gets obsessed over white chicks. He killed someone for Rebecca and now he's stalking Laurel, demanding to know where she is every second. But he's dating a fine-ass, fly-ass sista who also happens to be a med student...yet she's his afterthought, incapable of commanding his full attention. Really tho? I get that art can imitate life at times, but this is bullshit. If he's the body they found in the house, I'll be aight.

  2. Whooo!! Thank you for that clip. I watched it twice just now and shouted with laughter each time. Viola Davis as Annalise Keating is the first black woman in a tv series who I've watched and thought "Now there's a portrayal of a black woman I'm on board with".
